The Cal offense (#22) is very good, but they had a bad game against USC. Teams with big offensive/defensive splits often get the better unit into trouble; which the model accounts for, but the final score doesn't. Sonny Dykes is one of the most consistent offensive head coaches in college football and his offense this season has been really good; as usual. This Washington defense is going to be a big challenge and Cal hasn't done as well against good defenses.

Cal is excellent at Drive Efficiency. Davis Webb has really grown into the Dykes version of this offense and the talent on hand. This offense makes smart plays with the football and gets the yards it needs to move the chains. They are very good at Negative Drives so they avoid going 3 and out often. They also are good at Explosive Drives, but they aren't getting as many of them in Pac-12 play as they were early in the season.

Cal is pretty average at Play Efficiency, suggesting this offense takes the underneath routes, flats, and WR screens pretty often. They aren't great on 3rd down and at D-plus Plays, which could be dangerous against a Husky defense that has been able to get pressure without having to blitz.

Washington's defense (#21) has been putting it together better as the season has gone on, but they are not at the level that they were last year. They haven't had a really bad game since they let Brandon Dawkins run all over them, but they haven't had a totally dominant performance against a good to great offense. Cal should be a challenge. The Huskies offense should help out the D by scoring often and putting Cal in a deep field position hole, but Cal will still put up some points.

Washington is really good at per play metrics. They are excellent at Negative Drives and really good at Play Efficiency and Explosive Drives. This defense forces a lot of 3 and outs, doesn't allow big plays, and keeps teams from putting up solid YPP numbers underneath.

Washington isn't really that good at Drive Efficiency. They lack some consistency at times and they will let teams put together drives against them. They are not great at 3rd down or D-plus Plays when you control for their SOS. They are not creating enough turnovers this year.
