Until Weeks 6-7 the model outputs are directional, but useful

The Washington State offense (#9) is having a very good year so far, again with a little less data than other teams. In fact Air Raid spread teams are all having pretty good offensive years. The difference between Cal, Texas Tech, and WSU is that WSU also plays defense. WSU has thumped Oregon and Stanford on offense. Only Stanford is somewhat impressive. UCLA is going to be the best defense they have faced yet this year by a long shot.

WSU is excellent at Drive Efficiency. Having Luke Falk back there very comfortable in the offense is paying big dividends because this offense is incredibly consistent and puts up points on drives without having to be amazing at per play metrics. WSU is good, but not great at Play Efficiency, Explosive Drives, and preventing Negative Drives. This offense isn't spectacular per play, they just don't misfire and put themselves in a position where they are easy to get off the field.

WSU isn't good at preventing D-plus Plays or 3rd down when weighted by their Strength of Schedule. They can really prove out that they are good at these against UCLA. WSU just needs to be consistent.

UCLA's defense (#9) is still really good and freakishly athletic. They are really getting the short end of the stick this season with the UCLA offense as their supporting cast. This will be one of the best unit matchups of the season in all liklihood so football fans should be hyped to watch it, even if the UCLA offense makes the rest of the game a snoozer.

All of the following is still true:

UCLA is absurdly good at Play Efficiency, containing Explosive Drives, and creating Negative Drives. The make you try to go the length of the field while limiting your yards per play, keeping you from breaking out, and forcing you into 3 and outs. Oh and they are good on 3rd down.

UCLA isn't good at Drive Efficiency or D-plus Plays. They don't blitz a lot, so they can give up some drives, by not breaking up consistent play by the offense. Their D-line seems to be more effective at stuffing the run than getting to the QB. They can absolutely clean some of this up as the year goes on and get deep into the top 10 defenses in the country.
