The Stanford offense (#90) is the worst offense in the Pac-12 by a pretty wide margin and they looked putrid against Colorado last week, so I am sure they are happy to get a chance to play a very bad Arizona defense this week. Stanford is switching out QB's to Keller Chryst in the hopes of getting something going, but most of their problems stem from "The most Interesting Offensive Line in the World," which it turns out; isn't a very good Power 5 O-line.The Cardinal's schedule lightens significantly starting this week so there is a chance for this unit to go on a run and build some confidence going into next year.

Stanford is very good at Negative Drives. They don't put themselves in holes and they don't go 3 and out very often. They are also pretty good on 3rd down and at preventing D-plus plays.

Stanford is really bad at all the other stuff though; really bad. They are flat awful on Drive Efficiency, they are pretty bad at Play Efficiency, and they are really bad at Explosive Drives. This team lacks push off the snap, they lack consistency, and they are not getting the ball to their playmakers in space.

Arizona's defense (#90) also checks in at 90th in the land. Arizona is coming off a much needed by week after a brutal trucking at the hands of USC. It's not like Arizona is really good on defense, but the offense with Khalil Tate and Arizona's truly abysmal special teams didn't do the defense any favors in that game. The trouble for Arizona in this game is that the recipe for beating them that many offenses seem to eventually discover is to run the football between the tackles; which might be all Stanford can do most days. Arizona has played a pretty robust set of offenses so Stanford has to be a welcome sight for the Wildcats D this week.

Arizona is good at Play Efficiency, Negative Drives, and even on 3rd down when you adjust for their SOS. The Negative Drives number is key because this defense needs to connect more in Yate's blitzing scheme or leave themselves vulnerable to getting burned. They are pretty middling at Explosive Drives, which is a good sign.

Arizona is awful at Drive Efficiency. This team lacks the experience and talent to be consistent and to get off the field. They also are not making enough D-plus Plays. They need to cause some turnovers and get to the QB more consistently. If they could clean up this Drive Efficiency number they would be a decent, but not great defense. Drive Efficiency is a mix of play calling and consistent play though so a lot to work on there.
