The Washington offense (#5) is having an incredible year even after a somewhat disappointing performance against a Utah defense that doesn't look great when you control for things like tempo or opponent. They have mostly been able to put up big points though; even on very good defenses like Stanford. Peterson has pushed the Huskies O as a multi-faceted monster that doesn't need to key off one formation, set of plays, or players. This is true, but the Huskies are totally reliant on the big play and Utah showed that they can struggle when they have to go the legnth of the field repeatedly. If the Huskies play another good defense and special teams combo or a very good offense with a pretty good defense, they could be in trouble even if they are the superior team since both of those combinations could give the Huskies a lot of field to cover. That USC matchup looks very dangerous.

Washington is really incredible at the per play metrics. They Huskies are tops in the country at Explosive Drives and they are excellent at Play Efficiency and Negative Drives. They are pretty good at Drive Efficiency, but they aren't great at it or anything. They do have more than their share of stalled drives.

Washington isn't great at 3rd down or at D-plus Plays when you control for their schedule, which is cotton candy, so Cal should seem familiar.

Cal's defense (#101) is really bad. They have managed to do just enough occassionally to get their very good offense some wins, Utah and Oregon, but mostly they have been a lot like last week where USC rolled the Bears and the offense could not do enough to keep up. This defense made Arizona State look good. Washington is going to be a serious challenge for the Bears.

Cal's defense is ok on 3rd down.

Cal is terrible at Explosive Drives. They really give up big plays often. They are also really bad at Play Efficiency and Drive Efficiency. They don't get off the field very well, even when they might have the chance to. They don't cause D-plus Plays and they are bad at Negative Drives. This defense is going to have a time of it against the Huskies who should probably have their backups in pretty early in the second half if Cal's offense can't get it going.
