Until Weeks 6-7 the model outputs are directional, but useful

The Colorado offense (#11) is playing much better than anyone expected, especially considering they started the backup at Oregon. They played pretty well against Michigan too and Michigan has a very good defense, but while Oregon's defense has become the team's glaring weakness, the Oregon State defense is definitely this team's strength. That makes this a pretty good matchup in what might end up a bad game.

Colorado is very good at Explosive Drives and avoiding Negative Drives and they are close to being as good at Play Efficiency. All of that speaks to an offense that rarely goes three and out. They are also pretty good at avoiding D-plus plays and they are good on 3rd down. In fact, they profile even higher than their ranking if you look at the how they do on Play Efficiency, Explosive Drives, and Negative Drives, but...

What Colorado isn't good at is Drive Efficiency, meaning Colorado has some stalled drives that leave points opportunities on the field. The Buffs need to clean this up if they want to put up crooked numbers on Oregon State.

Oregon State's defense (#25) is the bright side of Oregon State's 2016 season so far. They have played pretty well against two good offenses in Boise State and Minnesota and really kept the games within reach of the sputtering offense for far longer than you would expect.

Oregon State doesn't give up Explosive Drives; they are #5 at it. They also are very good at generating Negative Drives. They force you to earn your yards and they are good at making you earn less than 3.3333 yards per play. They are also pretty good on 3rd down.  They are good, but not real good, at Play Efficiency. They make you earn your points.

Oregon State is not good at Drive Efficiency. They do give up more points than you would expect, sugesting that teams are getting touchdowns on non-Explosive Drives against the Beavers. They don't create a lot of D-plus plays and that would be a big help in stopping some of those drives that get turned into points.
