Until Weeks 6-7 the model outputs are directional, but useful

The Colorado offense (#18) hasn't missed Sefo LiuFau as much as I thought they would have. It helps that they played an Oregon team with an abysmal defense and an Oregon State team with a defense that has been falling the more data comes in; granted Colorado had something to do with that. You can't say at this point that the Colorado offense has had a bad game. Lucky for them USC's defense is doing its best to make Clay Helton a one term president.

Colorado's offense is excellent at avoiding Negative Drives and they are very good at Explosive Drives. They are pretty good at Play Efficiency. This Colorado team doesn't go 3 and out often and they punish you with big plays.

Colorado isn't bad at Drive Efficiency, but it will come back to hurt them when they play a very good defense. They are not good at preventing D-plus Plays and that could be hurting their Drive Efficiency. That also are not great on 3rd down when controlling for strength of schedule.

USC's defense (#86) had a pretty good game last week against terrible ASU offense. It was just the kind of opponent that USC's struggling defense needed.
It didn't hurt that Manny Wilkins was hurt in the game, but it wouldn't have mattered. This Colorado offense presents a serious challenge for this unit though and if they are going to redeem themselves they had better start here.

USC is pretty good at containing Explosive Drives, which is a good sign for them against this Colorado unit that has relied on them to an extent. They are also passably good at creating Negative Drives, which will be tough to do against this Colorado team that doesn't give them up easily.

USC is flat terrible at Drive Efficiency; one of the worst in the country in fact. If USC can't get you off the field in 4 downs, you are probably going to drive the length of the field. They are middling at Play Efficiency so they don't keep you from good yards per play numbers. They don't create D-plus Plays or get off the field on 3rd down very well. This defense is going to have to find another gear against the Buffs.
