Until Weeks 6-7 the model outputs are directional, but useful

The Utah offense (#78) still isn't very good. Smacking around a bad Arizona defense while enjoying terrific field position doesn't change that. Lucky for them they get Oregon State this week, so they got another shot to look competent.

Utah is exceptionally good at avoiding Negative Drives, which is a real skill that translates into actual points. They are good at avoiding going 3 and out, which combined with their very good punter, they do get pretty good field position.

Utah is very bad at Drive Efficiency, Play Efficiency, Explosive Drives, 3rd Down, and preventing D-plus Plays. This offense isn't going to beat you its own. They rely on field position and not making mistakes.

Oregon State's defense (#81) got out and got it done against Cal last week. This defense seems to be kind of young and they do make mistakes, but  I think that when they put it together they are going to be very good. They do so many good things as a defense and they have the kind of glaring weakness that looks to be more execution and consistency than anything else.

Oregon State is very good at containing Explosive Drives, and that helped them beat Cal last week. They are also good at Play Efficiency and creating Negative Drives. They are pretty good on 3rd down when weighted by their Strength of Schedule. All of this speaks to some talent and good coaching.

Oregon State isn't very consistent though and that really shows in their Drive Efficiency number. They let you march the length of the field on them and they struggle to create D-plus Plays. This will improve as they get more experience. This is a far less favorable matchup for Utah than Arizona who is more across the board bad.
