The Utah offense (#87) is terrible in ways we may not even fully understand yet, but that should change this week. Utah has managed to squeak by some bad defenses this year. They have a Strength of Schedule of #96. The good news for Utah is that they skip WSU this year, so the avoid one of the 4 best defenses in the Pac-12, the bad news is that the other 3 are waiting for them in their remaining 5 games. This UCLA defense is going to be at a level that Utah hasn't seen all year.

Utah is excellent at avoiding Negative Drives. They don't often go 3 and out and they don't put themselves in deep holes after they do.

Utah is incredibly bad at Drive Efficiency and Play Efficiency and just plain bad at Explosive Drives, 3rd down, and D-plus Plays. This offense lacks consistency and punch. They struggle to get over the top and their best games have come against some of the worst defenses in the conference. On the plus side Oregon is still out there to play.

UCLA's defense (#9) is the Oregon offense of Westwood, and it is fitting because they are already over compensating for that; you might as well pile on that they are forced to carry the flaccid UCLA offense around with them too; like your uncool little brother that your mom makes you take to the water park with your friends.

All of the following is still true:

UCLA is absurdly good at Play Efficiency, containing Explosive Drives, and creating Negative Drives. The make you try to go the length of the field while limiting your yards per play, keeping you from breaking out, and forcing you into 3 and outs. Oh and they are good on 3rd down.

UCLA isn't good at Drive Efficiency or D-plus Plays. They don't blitz a lot, so they can give up some drives, by not breaking up consistent play by the offense. Their D-line seems to be more effective at stuffing the run than getting to the QB. They can absolutely clean some of this up as the year goes on and get deep into the top 10 defenses in the country.
