The USC offense (#5) and Sam Darnold had a great game up in Seattle, not as great as their defense mind you, but great none-the-less. USC looked sharp and dangerous against a very good Washington defense. It's good they had a good game against the Huskies though, because the Trojans needed a bit of a prove it game, other than beating Colorado at home, a lot of the resurgence has been done against some of the worst defensive teams in the Pac-12. UCLA is going to be a serious test for the Trojans though. The Bruins are fast and athletic and their offense isn't quite as bad as the early season so they are not obviously going to gift the Trojans great field position.

USC is excellent at per play metrics. They are tops in the country in Negative Drives and very good at Explosive Drives and Play Efficiency. The Trojans are really good at putting up yards and they are very explosive, but they don't put up as many points as you would expect given their yardage output. They are also pretty good on 3rd down and at D-plus Plays. The offensive line is putting it together better.

The Trojans still struggle mightily with Drive Efficiency though. They have a lot of stalled drives. Some of this is play-calling and execution. The Trojans need to clean this up though, because they could be a monster offense if they turn yards into points more efficiently.

UCLA's defense (#7) is a mean monster. With everything the Trojans are doing, Washington's resurgence, and the job Jim Leavitt and Alex Grinch are doing, Tom Bradley's stellar job seems to be falling through the cracks. You could say the same for Lance Anderson at Stanford though. The Bruins defense played really well at Colorado, but they were let down by their offense. They really knocked around Oregon State last week at home. This USC offense is going to be a challenge though, especially if the offense bogs down and leaves them with a short field.

UCLA is excellent at Play Efficiency, Explosive Drives, and Negative Drives and they are very good at Drive Efficiency. This defense is really stingy when it comes to yards per play, they don't get burned on big plays, and they force an awful lot of 3 and outs. They are also good on 3rd down.

UCLA isn't great at D-plus Plays when you control for SOS, They need to come up with some big plays in this game to nudge their offense in the right direction.
