The Washington State offense (#5) really let the team down last week at Colorado, where some key drops and poor play doomed the team to a loss. I don't regret picking the Cougs, football games are small sample sizes with a decent amount of randomness factored in, but I can't help but feel like they must be kicking themselves after the Colorado game. Not to take anything away from Colorado who played well and made the most of all their opportunities. Washington is going to be a bit less of a stiff challenge than the Colorado defense, but the Washington offense could be putting up points and putting the Cougs in poor field position. Wazzu needs to be able to respond and make the Huskies match them in matching down the field.

This is still true:

Wazzu is phenomenal at Drive Efficiency. Luke Falk and his receivers run this offense with an amazing consistency and execution. WSU has been more effective at running the ball this season too. Washington State is also really really good at Explosive Drives and Negative Drives. They can put up points in a hurry and they don't do many 3 and outs. The Cougs are pretty average at Play Efficiency, suggesting they do run a fair amount of plays that don't gain a ton of yards. They are also middle of the road at D-plus Plays and 3rd down when you control for SOS.

Washington's defense (#10) did what you would expect against a totally incompetent ASU offense. WSU is going to be a much more serious challenge for the Huskies. If they can't get to Falk with some regularity then he is going to sit back there like Darnold did and pick them apart. You can't count on the Wazzu receiving corps to have another case of the drops or have borderline absurd fumble luck like last year.

Washington is excellent at Play Efficiency, Explosive Drives, and Negative Drives. They are also pretty good on 3rd down. This defense is great on per play metrics. They don't make you work for your yards per play, they don't give up a lot of big plays, and they force a lot of 3 and outs. They are only OK on Drive Efficiency, which means they could be more consistent.

Washington isn't great at D-plus Plays, they aren't forcing a ton of turnovers and that could make a big difference of them.
