Until Weeks 6-7 the model outputs are directional, but useful

The Arizona State offense (#65) managed to participate in a game, against a top 10 defense, where the team won, and they still managed to fall in the model. I feel genuinely bad for Brady White and not at all prescient about the fact that ASU didn't bother to go max protect against a freakishly fast and physical UCLA defense with a relatively immobile rookie QB. So now they are way down the depth chart at QB, which is a familiar theme in the state of Arizona, and they are up against a Colorado team that might be the most improved in the country.

ASU is still good at Drive Efficiency. They have managed to be consistent at the numbers that they are putting up and that means they are less likely than average to stall out and fail to get points.

ASU still isn't good at Play Efficiency, Explosive Drives, or preventing Negative Drives. They are terrible on 3rd down and at preventing D-plus Plays. This is an offense that lacks punch against good teams. Colorado has played some good defense so far.

Colorado's defense (#2) is going to get Jim Leavitt a new head coaching gig. He, Alex Grinch, and Tom Bradley are really the star coordinator hires in the conference. All three of them have top 10 defenses currently and have made more of a difference than just about anybody that has been hired on the offensive side of the ball lately. Colorado had a pretty good defensive game against USC, even in the loss. They have played a brutally tough schedule so ASU isn't going to shake them

Colorado is incredible at Drive Efficiency. They force offenses into inconsistent play and off the field. They are very good at Play Efficiency and containing Explosive Drives. They are also very good at D-plus Plays and on 3rd down. They are only better than OK at creating Negative Drives.

Colorado isn't bad at anything. Just the kind of defense you want to break in a 3rd or 4th string QB against.
