The Oregon offense (#10) is still having a sneaky great year, despite what your old uncle the sportswriter is saying in between swilling Old Milwaukee and yelling about "Millenials."  Oregon's offense had a great day against the Sun Devils and finally the defense did enough to make it stick. Herbert seems to be growing into the role and in some sense you can't blame Helfrich for making the move from an optics stance. The Oregon season wasn't going anywhere with a defense this terrible so you might as well look like you are committed to playing young guys and developing them for next year. Oregon is certainly good enough to put up some points on USC, but USC's offense is good enough to ensure that Oregon is almost always going to be starting from poor field position.

Oregon is phenomenal at the per play metrics. They are excellent at Explosive Drives and Negative Drives and they are not far off at Play Efficiency. They are also really good on 3rd down and preventing D-plus Plays. This offense is putting up a lot of yards.

The Ducks are not putting up as many points though. Their Drive Efficiency number isn't bad, but it isn't great and consistency is costing this team some points. If they were in the 20's on their Drive number they would probably be a top 5 offense.

USC's defense (#33) has been improving over the season, much like USC's record. They absolutely stuck Arizona and Cal in the last two weeks and though the wheels are coming off Arizona, they still are mildly dangerous on any given day. Holding Cal like they were able to is a better barrometer of how Oregon and USC matchup. Cal isn't nearly as efficient as the Ducks, but the Bears are really explosive and USC held them in check, but the Ducks defense is even worse than Cal's so USC should have a long field behind them against Oregon.

USC is very good at Explosive Drives. They are extremely athletic in the secondary so it is really difficult to get by them. They are good at Play Efficiency and Negative Drives. They don't give up a ton of yards and they force a decent share of 3 and outs. USC is also good on 3rd down.

USC isn't great at Drive Efficiency. They lack consistency and you can drive on them, even though they are not giving up big plays. Some of this is experience and some of this is play calling. They also don't force a ton of D-plus Plays. The defensive line has been a weakness for the team all season.
