The Washington State offense (#8) is pretty good, but they haven't lit it up of late either. Blasting Stanford was good and there is not shame in putting up 27 on UCLA, but the offense didn't light it up against ASU or OSU. Arizona is usually the correct remedy for an offense that needs a confidence boost. It certainly made Stanford fans feel better about the world.

Washington State is really incredible at Drive Efficiency. This offense is incredibly consistent and gets down the field. They do a lot of it underneath the coverage, but as Paul Johnson will tell you, all that matters is that you cross the goal line not how you do it. They are also extremely good at Explosive Drives and Negative Drives. They push the ball down the field and get big yards after the catch. They also avoid going 3 and out often. Washington State is pretty alright at Play Efficiency, suggesting that they do most of their damage in big chunks and small bites, with some incompletions spiced in

Washington State is pretty average at 3rd down and on D-plus Plays. This team doesn't seem to be phased by taking the occasional negative play though.

Arizona's defense (#91) only took a one spot fall after making Stanford look like they are kind of good at offense; so there is that to be happy about. The offense and special teams did nothing to help them in that game, so it is hard to hold them too much to account. The difficulty for Arizona's defense is that this season seems to be a pure trial by fire for the new scheme and some young players, but they are also playing really badly against some of the bad offenses they have faced.

Arizona is good at Negative Drives. The Negative Drives number is key because this defense needs to connect more in Yate's blitzing scheme or leave themselves vulnerable to getting burned.

Arizona is awful at Drive Efficiency. This team lacks the experience and talent to be consistent and to get off the field. They also are not making enough D-plus Plays. They need to cause some turnovers and get to the QB more consistently. They are on the wrong side of average on Play Efficiency and Explosive Drives. If they could clean up this Drive Efficiency number they would be a decent, but not great defense. Drive Efficiency is a mix of play calling and consistent play though so a lot to work on there.
