Arizona Offense vs Colorado Defense

Smoothed D3.js Radar Chart

The Arizona offense (#47) is in a full on tailspin, and while it doesn't help their public perception that they won't play either of the two worst defenses in the Pac-12 this season, the model controls for that. This unit is going to be Rodriguez's worst offense at Arizona and if it keeps on it's current downward trajectory; by a wide margin. Colorado is going to be a brutal challenge for this offense this week and I have to be frank; this might not be something you want to watch after the debacle in Pullman and the election.

Arizona is very good at Play Efficiency and Negative Drives. They still manage to put up a decent yards per play and they don't go 3 and out very often all things considered. Arizona is excellent on 3rd down and against D-plus Plays when you control for their SOS which might end up tops in the country after you add Colorado to it next week. Arizona is heading in the wrong direction on Explosive Drives as the Washington game ages in the model. Brandon Dawkins is really their only explosive threat and he has been injured to a degree the rest of this season.

Arizona is terrible at Drive Efficiency. This was a huge problem for them last year too. Rodriguez turns out more stalled drives than scoring drives any more and the play calling and execution just haven't been there. Arizona desperately needs to develop some consistency on offense heading into two games where they can be more competitive against OSU and ASU, but you are not likely to see that develop against this CU defense.

Colorado's defense (#3) has been carrying them of late. They shut down bad Stanford and UCLA offenses and gave their offense the breathing room necessary to get just enough done against the Cardinal and Bruin defenses. Arizona won't be anything like that though. Arizona's offense is drowning and the defense isn't any good.

Colorado is excellent at Drive Efficiency, Play Efficiency, Explosive Drives, Negative Drives and they are very good on 3rd down and a little less so at D-plus Plays. I am really looking forward to their matchup against the Cougs next week and that is really all Arizona can hope for, that Colorado writes them off.
