The Washington offense (#8) really struggled last week against the Trojans. USC's defense, which had been good at times, really shut down Washington. I thought they could have a chance because the Huskies rely too much on explosive plays and USC has the athletes to shut that down. Washington needed to run the ball more last week and they should work to establish the run and prove out that they can be methodical heading into the home stretch where they'll play WSU for a shot at the Pac-12 championship and the playoff spot they still have a line on.

Washington is still tops in the NCAA at Explosive Drives. They really push the ball down the field well to their exceptional receivers. They are also great at Play Efficiency and Negative Drives. They get a good push off the ball and they don't go 3 and out or take negative plays. They are less good at Drive Efficiency. They need to work on being, more consistent and putting together long drives. A lot of this is play calling and Browning's decisions, but they are going to run into another defense with great athletes if they make it to the playoff.

The Huskies are not great at 3rd down or D-plus Plays when you control for their SOS.

Arizona State's defense (#72) is pretty bad. Some of this is on their rebuilding secondary, but a lot of it is on Todd Graham, who is kind of a dumbass. I don't say that lightly, but when you have a rebuilding secondary... maybe you don't blitz all the time and leave those guys out on an island? What do you think Todd? This isn't the year where Coach Todd Graham and Rich Rod cover themselves in play calling glory; we'll get into Rich Rod's total butchery in the red zone later, but Graham had better calm his itchy trigger finger against the Huskies who will flat out embarrass ASU if Graham blitzes at his normal rate.

ASU is very good at Negative Drives. They force a lot of 3 and outs and get some tackle for a loss when they don't. They are also really good on 3rd down and D-plus Plays when you control for SOS.

ASU is very bad at Play Efficiency and not good at all at Drive Efficiency and Explosive Drives. They are not consistent. They blitz too often and don't connect often enough. They let Utah, not a great offense ESPECIALLY IN THE AIR, throw all over them. ASU had better figure out how to get a decent amount of pressure without putting their corners on an island if they want to keep this thing from getting silly.
