The Arizona offense (#42) is winding down the worst offensive season of Rich Rod's tenure. They are also continuing the trend that the more of his own recruits that Rodriguez has on the team, the worse they are. Arizona wasn't really good against OSU. Solomon did his usual dink and dunk and punt and was bailed out on an underthrown deep ball by Peterson, but the offense looked like it has under him for years; middle of the road. Dawkins did his usual blend of explosive plays and shortened reads. ASU is going to be the worst defense they get to play in the Pac-12 this year and I am not convinced Arizona puts up more than 24 points on them.

Arizona is really very good at per play metrics. They are very good at Play Efficiency and Negative Drives and they are pretty good at Explosive Drives too. Arizona doesn't go 3 and out all that often and they do put up yards. They are pretty good on 3rd down when you control for their SOS.

Arizona is terrible at Drive Efficiency. They are all yards and no points. They out gained Colorado, but walked away empty handed too many times in the red zone. A lot of this is on Rodriguez. I don't think he is paying attention to what is really working on this team with Dawkins in there and adjusting his play calling accordingly. Yes, a lot of this is on the players too, but it is way too deep in the season to get 3 downs inside the 10 and not know what plays are going to work. Arizona also isn't great at D-plus Plays. The line isn't giving anyone enough time and they are not opening enough holes.

Arizona State's defense (#68) is pretty bad and Todd Graham lived up to his dumbassness in the Washington game. Lucky for him the Huskies didn't pour it on like they could have against ASU. Arizona isn't really good at blitz pickup and they are only dangerously explosive when Dawkins tucks it so the challenge of ASU is not getting caught in man while the blitzers run past contain on Dawkins. ASU is so much better at special teams and Arizona is so bad at defense that it may not matter though. They should have plenty of field behind them to force Arizona punts.

ASU is very good at Negative Drives. They force a lot of 3 and outs and get some tackle for a loss when they don't. They are also really good on 3rd down and D-plus Plays when you control for SOS.

ASU is very bad at Play Efficiency and not good at all at Drive Efficiency and Explosive Drives. They are not consistent. They blitz too often and don't connect often enough. They let Utah, not a great offense ESPECIALLY IN THE AIR, throw all over them.
